2008-12-19ALSA: hda - Add probe_only optionTakashi Iwai
Added probe_only module option to hd-audio driver. This option specifies whether the driver creates and initializes the codec-parser after probing. When this option is set, the driver skips the codec parsing and initialization but gives you proc and other accesses. It's useful to see the initial codec state for debugging. The default of this value is off, so the default behavior is as same as before. Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2008-12-19ALSA: hda - Fix HD-Audio.txt reference of model listTakashi Iwai
The model list is now in HD-Audio-Models.txt. Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2008-12-19ACPI: fix 2.6.28 acpi.debug_level regressionBjorn Helgaas
acpi_early_init() was changed to over-write the cmdline param, making it really inconvenient to set debug flags at boot-time. Also, This sets the default level to "info", which is what all the ACPI drivers use. So to enable messages from drivers, you only have to supply the "layer" (a.k.a. "component"). For non-"info" ACPI core and ACPI interpreter messages, you have to supply both level and layer masks, as before. 2008-12-19ALSA: split HD-audio model list to HD-Audio-Models.txtTakashi Iwai

2008-12-19ALSA: hda - Add no-jd model for IDT 92HD73xxTakashi Iwai
Added the model without the jack-detection for some desktops that have really no jack-detection. The recent driver caused regressions regarding the sound output on such machines. Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2008-12-18x86: PAT: update documentation to cover pgprot and remap_pfn related changes ↵venkatesh.pallipadi@intel.com

2008-12-18trace: add a way to enable or disable the stack tracerSteven Rostedt
Impact: enhancement to stack tracer The stack tracer currently is either on when configured in or off when it is not. It can not be disabled when it is configured on. (besides disabling the function tracer that it uses) This patch adds a way to enable or disable the stack tracer at run time. It defaults off on bootup, but a kernel parameter 'stacktrace' has been added to enable it on bootup. A new sysctl has been added "kernel.stack_tracer_enabled" to let the user enable or disable the stack tracer at run time. Signed-off-by: Steven Rostedt <srostedt@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-12-18ALSA: hda - Fix silent HP output on D975Takashi Iwai
Some desktops seems to have no HP/mic jack detection on the front panel, which results in the silent output in the recent driver, because the driver mutes the output (to save power) when no plug is detected. This patch adds a new model that disables the jack-detection. Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2008-12-17USB: fix comment about endianness of descriptorsPhil Endecott
This patch fixes a comment and clarifies the documentation about the endianness of descriptors. The current policy is that descriptors will be little-endian at the API even on big-endian systems; however the /proc/bus/usb API predates this policy and presents descriptors with some multibyte fields byte-swapped. Signed-off-by: Phil Endecott <usb_endian_patch@chezphil.org> Signed-off-by: Alan Stern <stern@rowland.harvard.edu> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>

2008-12-17usbmon: drop bogus 0t from usbmon.txtPete Zaitcev
The example is incorrect: there is no 0t socket (the '1t' format has no bus number in it). Also, correct the broken sentence for USB Tag. Signed-off-by: Pete Zaitcev <zaitcev@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-12-16x86: documentation fix regarding boot protocolPhilipp Kohlbecher
Impact: clarify documentation Documentation/x86/boot.txt describes payload_offset as the offset from the end of the real-mode code. In fact, it is more accurately described as the offset from the beginning of the protected-mode code, as (a) this is how it is actually calculated and (b) the padding after the real-mode code is not included in the offset. Signed-off-by: Philipp Kohlbecher <xt28@gmx.de> Acked-by: Ian Campbell <ijc@hellion.org.uk> Acked-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
