2007-02-26Revert "[PATCH] i386: add idle notifier"Linus Torvalds
This reverts commit 2ff2d3d74705d34ab71b21f54634fcf50d57bdd5. Uwe Bugla reports that he cannot mount a floppy drive any more, and Jiri Slaby bisected it down to this commit. Benjamin LaHaise also points out that this is a big hot-path, and that interrupt delivery while idle is very common and should not go through all these expensive gyrations. Fix up conflicts in arch/i386/kernel/apic.c and arch/i386/kernel/irq.c due to other unrelated irq changes. 2007-02-13[PATCH] i386: add idle notifierStephane Eranian
Add a notifier mechanism to the low level idle loop. You can register a callback function which gets invoked on entry and exit from the low level idle loop. The low level idle loop is defined as the polling loop, low-power call, or the mwait instruction. Interrupts processed by the idle thread are not considered part of the low level loop. The notifier can be used to measure precisely how much is spent in useless execution (or low power mode). The perfmon subsystem uses it to turn on/off monitoring. 2006-12-07[PATCH] hotplug CPU: clean up hotcpu_notifier() useIngo Molnar
There was lots of #ifdef noise in the kernel due to hotcpu_notifier(fn, prio) not correctly marking 'fn' as used in the !HOTPLUG_CPU case, and thus generating compiler warnings of unused symbols, hence forcing people to add #ifdefs. the compiler can skip truly unused functions just fine: text data bss dec hex filename 1624412 728710 3674856 6027978 5bfaca vmlinux.before 1624412 728710 3674856 6027978 5bfaca vmlinux.after [akpm@osdl.org: topology.c fix] Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-10-13[PATCH] thermal throttle: sysfs error checkingStephen Hemminger
Get rid of warning in the thermal throttling code about not checking sysfs return values. Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-09-26[PATCH] x86: Add a cumulative thermal throttle event counter.Dmitriy Zavin
The counter is exported to /sys that keeps track of the number of thermal events, such that the user knows how bad the thermal problem might be (since the logging to syslog and mcelog is rate limited). 2006-09-26[PATCH] x86: Refactor thermal throttle processingDmitriy Zavin
Refactor the event processing (syslog messaging and rate limiting) into separate file therm_throt.c. This allows consistent reporting of CPU thermal throttle events. After ACK'ing the interrupt, if the event is current, the user (p4.c/mce_intel.c) calls therm_throt_process to log (and rate limit) the event. If that function returns 1, the user has the option to log things further (such as to mce_log in x86_64). 2006-03-31[PATCH] Don't pass boot parameters to argv_init[]OGAWA Hirofumi
The boot cmdline is parsed in parse_early_param() and parse_args(,unknown_bootoption). And __setup() is used in obsolete_checksetup(). start_kernel() -> parse_args() -> unknown_bootoption() -> obsolete_checksetup() If __setup()'s callback (->setup_func()) returns 1 in obsolete_checksetup(), obsolete_checksetup() thinks a parameter was handled. If ->setup_func() returns 0, obsolete_checksetup() tries other ->setup_func(). If all ->setup_func() that matched a parameter returns 0, a parameter is seted to argv_init[]. Then, when runing /sbin/init or init=app, argv_init[] is passed to the app. If the app doesn't ignore those arguments, it will warning and exit. This patch fixes a wrong usage of it, however fixes obvious one only. 2005-11-07[PATCH] x86: add MCE resumeShaohua Li

2005-10-30[PATCH] x86: bug fix in P6 Machine check initializationVenkatesh Pallipadi
Make P6 MCA initialization code complaint with guidelines in IA-32 SDM Vol3. Bank 0 control register should not be set by OS and clear status registers on all banks on reset. This will prevent false MCE alarms on the systems that has some non-MCE information left-over in MC0_STATUS on reboot. 2005-09-26[PATCH] useless includes of linux/irq.h in arch/i386Al Viro
Most of these guys are simply not needed (pulled by other stuff via asm-i386/hardirq.h). One that is not entirely useless is hilarious - arch/i386/oprofile/nmi_timer_int.c includes linux/irq.h... as a way to get linux/errno.h Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-06-25[PATCH] suspend/resume SMP supportLi Shaohua

2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
