2005-09-02[PATCH] m68knommu: new family (523x) and board config supportGreg Ungerer
New architecture and board configuration support for m68knommu. . add 523x ColdFire support . add support for SOM5282 and MOD5272 boards . break up the 527x to be separate 5271 and 5275. There is some subtle differences that (like RAM config) that need to be dealt with . add option to support selecting 4k kernel stack Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2005-09-02[PATCH] m68knommu: fix ColdFire startup code to properly handle non 0 based ramGreg Ungerer
Correctly determine the end of ram for ram setups that do not start at base address of 0. Add support for the MOD5272 board, which doesn not have a ram base of 0. Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2005-08-29[PATCH] convert signal handling of NODEFER to act like other Unix boxes.Steven Rostedt
It has been reported that the way Linux handles NODEFER for signals is not consistent with the way other Unix boxes handle it. I've written a program to test the behavior of how this flag affects signals and had several reports from people who ran this on various Unix boxes, confirming that Linux seems to be unique on the way this is handled. The way NODEFER affects signals on other Unix boxes is as follows: 1) If NODEFER is set, other signals in sa_mask are still blocked. 2) If NODEFER is set and the signal is in sa_mask, then the signal is still blocked. (Note: this is the behavior of all tested but Linux _and_ NetBSD 2.0 *). The way NODEFER affects signals on Linux: 1) If NODEFER is set, other signals are _not_ blocked regardless of sa_mask (Even NetBSD doesn't do this). 2) If NODEFER is set and the signal is in sa_mask, then the signal being handled is not blocked. The patch converts signal handling in all current Linux architectures to the way most Unix boxes work. Unix boxes that were tested: DU4, AIX 5.2, Irix 6.5, NetBSD 2.0, SFU 3.5 on WinXP, AIX 5.3, Mac OSX, and of course Linux 2.6.13-rcX. * NetBSD was the only other Unix to behave like Linux on point #2. The main concern was brought up by point #1 which even NetBSD isn't like Linux. So with this patch, we leave NetBSD as the lonely one that behaves differently here with #2. 2005-07-26[PATCH] Don't export machine_restart, machine_halt, or machine_power_off.Eric W. Biederman
machine_restart, machine_halt and machine_power_off are machine specific hooks deep into the reboot logic, that modules have no business messing with. Usually code should be calling kernel_restart, kernel_halt, kernel_power_off, or emergency_restart. So don't export machine_restart, machine_halt, and machine_power_off so we can catch buggy users. 2005-07-25kbuild: drop descend - converting existing usersSam Ravnborg
There was only two users left of descend. Fix them so they use $(clean)= and $(build)=. Drop definition of descend. Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> ---
2005-07-11[NET]: add a top-level Networking menu to *configSam Ravnborg
Create a new top-level menu named "Networking" thus moving net related options and protocol selection way from the drivers menu and up on the top-level where they belong. To implement this all architectures has to source "net/Kconfig" before drivers/*/Kconfig in their Kconfig file. This change has been implemented for all architectures. Device drivers for ordinary NIC's are still to be found in the Device Drivers section, but Bluetooth, IrDA and ax25 are located with their corresponding menu entries under the new networking menu item. 2005-06-23[PATCH] make each arch use mm/KconfigDave Hansen
For all architectures, this just means that you'll see a "Memory Model" choice in your architecture menu. For those that implement DISCONTIGMEM, you may eventually want to make your ARCH_DISCONTIGMEM_ENABLE a "def_bool y" and make your users select DISCONTIGMEM right out of the new choice menu. The only disadvantage might be if you have some specific things that you need in your help option to explain something about DISCONTIGMEM. 2005-06-03[PATCH] m68knommu: fix scheduling and race problems in idle loopGreg Ungerer
Re-work the m68knommu specific idle code according to suggestions from Nick Piggin <nickpiggin@yahoo.com.au>. A couple of rules that we need to follow: 1. Preempt should now disabled over idle routines. Should only be enabled to call schedule() then disabled again. 3. When cpu_idle finds (need_resched() == 'true'), it should call schedule(). It should not call schedule() otherwise. Also fix interrupt locking around the need_resched() and cpu stop state so that there is no race condition. 2005-05-04[PATCH] ISA DMA Kconfig fixes - part 1Al Viro
A bunch of drivers use ISA DMA helpers or their equivalents for platforms that have ISA with different DMA controller (a lot of ARM boxen). Currently there is no way to put such dependency in Kconfig - CONFIG_ISA is not it (e.g. it is not set on platforms that have no ISA slots, but have on-board devices that pretend to be ISA ones). New symbol added - ISA_DMA_API. Set when we have functional enable_dma()/set_dma_mode()/etc. set of helpers. Next patches in the series will add missing dependencies for drivers that need them. I'm very carefully staying the hell out of the recurring flamefest on what exactly CONFIG_ISA would mean in ideal world - added symbol has a well-defined meaning and for now I really want to treat it as completely independent from the mess around CONFIG_ISA. 2005-05-01[PATCH] convert that currently tests _NSIG directly to use valid_signal()Jesper Juhl
Convert most of the current code that uses _NSIG directly to instead use valid_signal(). This avoids gcc -W warnings and off-by-one errors. Signed-off-by: Jesper Juhl <juhl-lkml@dif.dk> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
