2009-06-17MIPS: Allow R2 CPUs to turn off generation of 'ehb' instructions.David Daney
Some CPUs do not need ehb instructions after writing CP0 registers. By allowing ehb generation to be overridden in cpu-feature-overrides.h, we can save a few instructions in the TLB handler hot paths. 2009-06-16kmap_types: make most arches use generic header fileRandy Dunlap
Convert most arches to use asm-generic/kmap_types.h. Move the KM_FENCE_ macro additions into asm-generic/kmap_types.h, controlled by __WITH_KM_FENCE from each arch's kmap_types.h file. Would be nice to be able to add custom KM_types per arch, but I don't yet see a nice, clean way to do that. Built on x86_64, i386, mips, sparc, alpha(tonyb), powerpc(tonyb), and 68k(tonyb). Note: avr32 should be able to remove KM_PTE2 (since it's not used) and then just use the generic kmap_types.h file. Get avr32 maintainer approval. 2009-06-16time: move PIT_TICK_RATE to linux/timex.hArnd Bergmann
PIT_TICK_RATE is currently defined in four architectures, but in three different places. While linux/timex.h is not the perfect place for it, it is still a reasonable replacement for those drivers that traditionally use asm/timex.h to get CLOCK_TICK_RATE and expect it to be the PIT frequency. Note that for Alpha, the actual value changed from 1193182UL to 1193180UL. This is unlikely to make a difference, and probably can only improve accuracy. There was a discussion on the correct value of CLOCK_TICK_RATE a few years ago, after which every existing instance was getting changed to 1193182. According to the specification, it should be 1193181.818181... 2009-06-12asm-generic: merge branch 'master' of torvalds/linux-2.6Arnd Bergmann

2009-06-11asm-generic: rename page.h and uaccess.hArnd Bergmann
The current asm-generic/page.h only contains the get_order function, and asm-generic/uaccess.h only implements unaligned accesses. This renames the file to getorder.h and uaccess-unaligned.h to make room for new page.h and uaccess.h file that will be usable by all simple (e.g. nommu) architectures. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename atomic.h to atomic-long.hArnd Bergmann
The existing asm-generic/atomic.h only defines the atomic_long type. This renames it to atomic-long.h so we have a place to add a truly generic atomic.h that can be used on all non-SMP systems. 2009-06-11asm-generic: introduce asm/bitsperlong.hArnd Bergmann
This provides a reliable way for asm-generic/types.h and other files to find out if it is running on a 32 or 64 bit platform. We cannot use CONFIG_64BIT for this in headers that are included from user space because CONFIG symbols are not available there. We also cannot do it inside of asm/types.h because some headers need the word size but cannot include types.h. The solution is to introduce a new header <asm/bitsperlong.h> that defines both __BITS_PER_LONG for user space and BITS_PER_LONG for usage in the kernel. The asm-generic version falls back to 32 bit unless the architecture overrides it, which I did for all 64 bit platforms. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename termios.h, signal.h and mman.hArnd Bergmann
The existing asm-generic versions are incomplete and included by some architectures. New architectures should be able to use a generic version, so rename the existing files and change all users, which lets us add the new files. 2009-06-08MIPS: Outline udelay and fix a few issues.Ralf Baechle
Outlining fixes the issue were on certain CPUs such as the R10000 family the delay loop would need an extra cycle if it overlaps a cacheline boundary. The rewrite also fixes build errors with GCC 4.4 which was changed in way incompatible with the kernel's inline assembly. Relying on pure C for computation of the delay value removes the need for explicit. The price we pay is a slight slowdown of the computation - to be fixed on another day.
