2006-06-27[PATCH] spin/rwlock init cleanupsIngo Molnar
locking init cleanups: - convert " = SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED" to spin_lock_init() or DEFINE_SPINLOCK() - convert rwlocks in a similar manner this patch was generated automatically. Motivation: - cleanliness - lockdep needs control of lock initialization, which the open-coded variants do not give - it's also useful for -rt and for lock debugging in general Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-06-21[PATCH] USB: allow multiple types of EHCI controllers to be built as modulesKumar Gala
In some systems we may have both a platform EHCI controller and PCI EHCI controller. Previously we couldn't build the EHCI support as a module due to conflicting module_init() calls in the code. 2006-04-21[PATCH] powerpc: Lower threshold for DART enablement to 1GBOlof Johansson
Turn on the DART already at 1GB. This is needed because of crippled devices in some systems, i.e. Airport Extreme cards, only supporting 30-bit DMA addresses. Otherwise, users with between 1 and 2GB of memory will need to manually enable it with iommu=force, and that's no good. Some simple performance tests show that there's a slight impact of enabling DART, but it's in the 1-3% range (kernel build with disk I/O as well as over NFS). iommu=off can still be used for those who don't want to deal with the overhead (and don't need it for any devices). 2006-02-24[PATCH] powerpc: Fix some MPIC + HT APIC bugletsSegher Boessenkool
Do disable, not enable, the HT APIC IRQ in the function that is supposed to. Enable the MPIC IRQ before enabling the downstream APIC IRQ, avoids potentially losing an interrupt. 2006-02-10[PATCH] powerpc: trivial: modify comments to refer to new location of filesJon Mason
This patch removes all self references and fixes references to files in the now defunct arch/ppc64 tree. I think this accomplises everything wanted, though there might be a few references I missed. Signed-off-by: Jon Mason <jdmason@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

2006-02-07[PATCH] powerpc: Always panic if lmb_alloc() failsMichael Ellerman
Currently most callers of lmb_alloc() don't check if it worked or not, if it ever does weird bad things will probably happen. The few callers who do check just panic or BUG_ON. So make lmb_alloc() panic internally, to catch bugs at the source. The few callers who did check the result no longer need to. The only caller that did anything interesting with the return result was careful_allocation(). For it we create __lmb_alloc_base() which _doesn't_ panic automatically, a little messy, but passable. 2006-01-14[PATCH] powerpc: Add FSL SOC library and setup codeKumar Gala
Parse the flat device tree for devices on Freescale SOC's that we know about (gianfar, gianfar_mdio, i2c, mpc83xx_wdt). We need to setup platform devices and platform data for these devices to match arch/ppc usage. Also add a helper function (get_immrbase) that reports the base address of the MMIO registers on the SOC. 2006-01-11[PATCH] powerpc: Updated Kconfig and Makefiles for 83xx supportKumar Gala
Updated Kconfig & Makefiles in prep for adding support for the Freescale MPC83xx family of processors to arch/powerpc. Moved around some config options that are more globally applicable to other PowerPC processors. Added a temporary config option (83xx) to match existing arch/ppc support for the MPC83xx line. 2006-01-09[PATCH] powerpc: Fix g5 DART initBenjamin Herrenschmidt
The patch enabling the new G5's with U4 broke initialization of the DART driver, causing it to trigger a BUG_ON for a case that is actually valid. This patch fixes it: Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2006-01-09[PATCH] powerpc: Experimental support for new G5 Macs (#2)Benjamin Herrenschmidt
This adds some very basic support for the new machines, including the Quad G5 (tested), and other new dual core based machines and iMac G5 iSight (untested). This is still experimental ! There is no thermal control yet, there is no proper handing of MSIs, etc.. but it boots, I have all 4 cores up on my machine. Compared to the previous version of this patch, this one adds DART IOMMU support for the U4 chipset and thus should work fine on setups with more than 2Gb of RAM. 2006-01-09[PATCH] powerpc32: fix definition of distribute_irqsAndy Whitcroft
When we select ppc32 under the powerpc architecture we get the error below. This relates to defining distribute_irqs when this configuratiom option is undefined. 2005-11-23[PATCH] powerpc: update my email addressOlof Johansson
Email address update, changing old work address to personal (permanent) one. Signed-off-by: Olof Johansson <olof@lixom.net> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-11-19[PATCH] powerpc: Fix setting MPIC priorityBenjamin Herrenschmidt
Trying to set the priority would just disable the interrupt due to an incorrect mask used. We rarely use that call, in fact, I think only in the powermac code for the cmd-power key combo that triggers xmon. So it got unnoticed for a while. Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-11-10[PATCH] powerpc: 64k pages vs. U3 iommuBenjamin Herrenschmidt
That DART (U3 iommu) code didn't properly scale the number of entries when using !4k pages. That caused crashes when booting G5s with more than 2Gb of RAM. This fixes it. Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] powerpc: Kill ppcdebugDavid Gibson
The ancient ppcdebug/PPCDBG mechanism is now only used in two places. First, in the hash setup code, one of the bits allows the size of the hash table to be reduced by a factor of 8 - which would be better accomplished with a command line option for that purpose. The other was a bunch of bus walking related messages in the iSeries code, which would seem to be insufficient reason to keep the mechanism. This patch removes the last traces of this mechanism. Built and booted on iSeries and pSeries POWER5 LPAR (ARCH=powerpc). Signed-off-by: David Gibson <dwg@au1.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] powerpc: Fix i8259 cascade IRQDavid Woodhouse
setup_irq() aborts immediately if there's no handler for the IRQ in question. So i8259_init() should set up its handlers before trying to set up the cascade on IRQ 2. With this and the patch I sent a few days ago to fix initrd on ppc32, my Pegasos now runs the arch/powerpc kernel. Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-11-02[PATCH] powerpc: Move dart.hDavid Gibson
asm-ppc64/dart.h is included in exactly one place - arch/powerpc/sysdev/u3_iommu.c. This patch, therefore, moves it into arch/powerpc/sysdev. While we're at it, update the #ifndef/#define protecting the include, and the filename in the comments of u3_iommu.c. Built and booted on pSeries and G5, built for ppc32 powermac. Signed-off-by: David Gibson <david@gibson.dropbear.id.au> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-11-01[PATCH] powerpc: move mmio_nvram.c over to arch/powerpcArnd Bergmann
The nvram code formally known as bpa_nvram.c is rather generic really, so it is quite likely to be useful to future boards not based on cell. This patch puts it into arch/powerpc/sysdev. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arndb@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

2005-10-26powerpc: Fix incorrect timer register addresses in mpic.cPaul Mackerras
We were computing the wrong address for the MPIC timer registers, so when we went to initialize them we would have been hitting some unrelated ioremap... oops. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-26powerpc: Pull out MPC106 (grackle) initialization code into its own filePaul Mackerras
This is so that the 32-bit CHRP code can use it. The MPC106 initialization code is now in arch/powerpc/sysdev/grackle.c and is controlled by CONFIG_PPC_MPC106. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-26powerpc: Merge i8259.c into arch/powerpc/sysdevPaul Mackerras
This changes the parameters for i8259_init so that it takes two parameters: a physical address for generating an interrupt acknowledge cycle, and an interrupt number offset. i8259_init now sets the irq_desc[] for its interrupts; all the callers were doing this, and that code is gone now. This also defines a CONFIG_PPC_I8259 symbol to select i8259.o for inclusion, and makes the platforms that need it select that symbol. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-26ppc: Use the indirect_pci.c from arch/powerpc/sysdevPaul Mackerras
This defines a CONFIG_INDIRECT_PCI symbol to control whether it gets used or not, and fixes the Kconfig to select that symbol for platforms that need it. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-20powerpc: Move smp_mpic_message_pass into mpic.cPaul Mackerras
Having it here rather than in arch/ppc64/kernel/smp.c means that we can use it on 32-bit SMP systems easily with ARCH=powerpc. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-10powerpc: Use arch/powerpc/mm and arch/powerpc/lib for 64-bitPaul Mackerras
This also puts a copy of indirect_pci.c in arch/powerpc/sysdev so that we don't need to build in arch/ppc/syslib. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-01powerpc: Get merged kernel to compile and run on 32-bit SMP powermac.Paul Mackerras
This updates the powermac SMP code to use the mpic driver instead of the openpic driver and fixes the SMP-dependent context switch code. We had a subtle bug where we were using interrupt numbers 256-259 for IPIs, but ppc32 had NR_IRQS = 256. Moved the IPIs down to use interrupt numbers 252-255 instead. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-09-26powerpc: Merge enough to start building in arch/powerpc.Paul Mackerras
This creates the directory structure under arch/powerpc and a bunch of Kconfig files. It does a first-cut merge of arch/powerpc/mm, arch/powerpc/lib and arch/powerpc/platforms/powermac. This is enough to build a 32-bit powermac kernel with ARCH=powerpc. For now we are getting some unmerged files from arch/ppc/kernel and arch/ppc/syslib, or arch/ppc64/kernel. This makes some minor changes to files in those directories and files outside arch/powerpc. The boot directory is still not merged. That's going to be interesting. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
