2007-10-10[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make packet reception network namespace safeEric W. Biederman
This patch modifies every packet receive function registered with dev_add_pack() to drop packets if they are not from the initial network namespace. This should ensure that the various network stacks do not receive packets in a anything but the initial network namespace until the code has been converted and is ready for them. 2007-10-10Drop 'size' argument from bio_endio and bi_end_ioNeilBrown
As bi_end_io is only called once when the reqeust is complete, the 'size' argument is now redundant. Remove it. Now there is no need for bio_endio to subtract the size completed from bi_size. So don't do that either. While we are at it, change bi_end_io to return void. Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>
2007-07-24[BLOCK] Get rid of request_queue_t typedefJens Axboe
Some of the code has been gradually transitioned to using the proper struct request_queue, but there's lots left. So do a full sweet of the kernel and get rid of this typedef and replace its uses with the proper type. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>
2007-07-20mm: Remove slab destructors from kmem_cache_create().Paul Mundt
Slab destructors were no longer supported after Christoph's c59def9f222d44bb7e2f0a559f2906191a0862d7 change. They've been BUGs for both slab and slub, and slob never supported them either. This rips out support for the dtor pointer from kmem_cache_create() completely and fixes up every single callsite in the kernel (there were about 224, not including the slab allocator definitions themselves, or the documentation references). Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>
2007-05-03[NET]: Rework dev_base via list_head (v3)Pavel Emelianov
Cleanup of dev_base list use, with the aim to simplify making device list per-namespace. In almost every occasion, use of dev_base variable and dev->next pointer could be easily replaced by for_each_netdev loop. A few most complicated places were converted to using first_netdev()/next_netdev(). 2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_reset_network_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
For the common, open coded 'skb->nh.raw = skb->data' operation, so that we can later turn skb->nh.raw into a offset, reducing the size of struct sk_buff in 64bit land while possibly keeping it as a pointer on 32bit. This one touches just the most simple case, next will handle the slightly more "complex" cases. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_mac_header()Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
For the places where we need a pointer to the mac header, it is still legal to touch skb->mac.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it to another layer header. This one also converts some more cases to skb_reset_mac_header() that my regex missed as it had no spaces before nor after '=', ugh. 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 3Arjan van de Ven
Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-12-22[PATCH] fix aoe without scatter-gather [Bug 7662]Ed L. Cashin
Fix a bug that only appears when AoE goes over a network card that does not support scatter-gather. The headers in the linear part of the skb appeared to be larger than they really were, resulting in data that was offset by 24 bytes. This patch eliminates the offset data on cards that don't support scatter-gather or have had scatter-gather turned off. There remains an unrelated issue that I'll address in a separate email. 2006-10-18aoe: zero copy write 1 of 2Ed L. Cashin
Avoid memory copy on writes. (This patch depends on fixes in patch 9 to follow.) Although skb->len should not be set when working with linear skbuffs, the skb->tail pointer maintained by skb_put/skb_trim is not relevant to what happens when the skb_fill_page_desc function is called. This issue was raised without comment in linux-kernel and netdev earlier this month: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/446474/ http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network/45444/ So until there is something analogous to skb_put that works for zero-copy write skbuffs, we will do what the other callers of skb_fill_page_desc are doing. 2006-06-17[NET]: Clean up skb_linearizeHerbert Xu
The linearisation operation doesn't need to be super-optimised. So we can replace __skb_linearize with __pskb_pull_tail which does the same thing but is more general. Also, most users of skb_linearize end up testing whether the skb is linear or not so it helps to make skb_linearize do just that. Some callers of skb_linearize also use it to copy cloned data, so it's useful to have a new function skb_linearize_cow to copy the data if it's either non-linear or cloned. Last but not least, I've removed the gfp argument since nobody uses it anymore. If it's ever needed we can easily add it back. 2006-01-08[PATCH] Add block_device_operations.getgeo block device methodChristoph Hellwig
HDIO_GETGEO is implemented in most block drivers, and all of them have to duplicate the code to copy the structure to userspace, as well as getting the start sector. This patch moves that to common code [1] and adds a ->getgeo method to fill out the raw kernel hd_geometry structure. For many drivers this means ->ioctl can go away now. [1] the s390 block drivers are odd in this respect. xpram sets ->start to 4 always which seems more than odd, and the dasd driver shifts the start offset around, probably because of it's non-standard sector size.
