2009-03-31proc 2/2: remove struct proc_dir_entry::ownerAlexey Dobriyan
Setting ->owner as done currently (pde->owner = THIS_MODULE) is racy as correctly noted at bug #12454. Someone can lookup entry with NULL ->owner, thus not pinning enything, and release it later resulting in module refcount underflow. We can keep ->owner and supply it at registration time like ->proc_fops and ->data. But this leaves ->owner as easy-manipulative field (just one C assignment) and somebody will forget to unpin previous/pin current module when switching ->owner. ->proc_fops is declared as "const" which should give some thoughts. ->read_proc/->write_proc were just fixed to not require ->owner for protection. rmmod'ed directories will be empty and return "." and ".." -- no harm. And directories with tricky enough readdir and lookup shouldn't be modular. We definitely don't want such modular code. Removing ->owner will also make PDE smaller. So, let's nuke it. 2008-11-29[ARM] Hide ISA DMA API when ISA_DMA_API is unsetRussell King
When ISA_DMA_API is unset, we're not implementing the ISA DMA API, so there's no point in publishing the prototypes via asm/dma.h, nor including the machine dependent parts of that API. This allows us to remove a lot of mach/dma.h files which don't contain any useful code. Unfortunately though, some platforms put their own private non-ISA definitions into mach/dma.h, so we leave these behind and fix the appropriate #include statments. 2008-11-12netdevice: safe convert to netdev_priv() #part-2Wang Chen
We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv: 1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv(). 2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv. But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it directly. This patch is a safe convert for netdev->priv to netdev_priv(netdev). Since all of the netdev->priv is only for read. But it is too big to be sent in one mail. I split it to 4 parts and make every part smaller than 100,000 bytes, which is max size allowed by vger. 2008-07-30nsc-ircc: default to dongle type 9 on IBM hardwareMatthew Garrett
This is necessary to set the dongle type on the nsc driver in order to get it to work correctly. Thinkpads all appear to use dongle type 9. This patch defaults nsc devices with an IBM PnP descriptor to use type 9.
