2008-11-03drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller
The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-10-27net: convert print_mac to %pMJohannes Berg
This converts pretty much everything to print_mac. There were a few things that had conflicts which I have just dropped for now, no harm done. I've built an allyesconfig with this and looked at the files that weren't built very carefully, but it's a huge patch. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-10-08phylib: move to dynamic allocation of struct mii_busLennert Buytenhek
This patch introduces mdiobus_alloc() and mdiobus_free(), and makes all mdio bus drivers use these functions to allocate their struct mii_bus'es dynamically. 2008-10-08phylib: rename mii_bus::dev to mii_bus::parentLennert Buytenhek
In preparation of giving mii_bus objects a device tree presence of their own, rename struct mii_bus's ->dev argument to ->parent, since having a 'struct device *dev' that points to our parent device conflicts with introducing a 'struct device dev' representing our own device. 2008-07-22netdev: bunch of drivers: avoid WARN at net/core/dev.c:1328Anton Vorontsov
The drivers were touching net queue before it has been started, so without this patch, the drivers will potentially WARN at net/core/dev.c:1328. I don't have the hardware for the drivers below, so this patch is untested, and thus should be carefully peer reviewed. tc35815.c au1000_eth.c bfin_mac.c macb.c ^ The four drivers are using phylib, they're calling netif_start_queue() in open() callback. So trivially remove netif_tx_schedule_all(). Phylib will handle netif_carrier_*(). cpmac.c fec_mpc52xx.c fs_enet/fs_enet-main.c sh_eth.c ^ The same as above, but these were also needlessly calling netif_carrier_*() functions. So removed queue calls and also remove carrier calls, since phylib will handle it. fs_enet-main.c also didn't call netif_start_queue() at open(), this is fixed now. 2008-07-02macb: Basic suspend/resume supportHaavard Skinnemoen
This implements suspend and resume callbacks for the macb driver. We may have to do some more to gracefully shut the MAC down, but this at least prevents the macb from waking the system when hooked up to a busy network. 2008-04-25net drivers: fix platform driver hotplug/coldplugKay Sievers
Since 43cc71eed1250755986da4c0f9898f9a635cb3bf, the platform modalias is prefixed with "platform:". Add MODULE_ALIAS() to the hotpluggable network platform drivers, to re-enable auto loading. NOTE: didn't change drivers/net/fs_enet/fs_enet-main.c "old binding" support. That looks problematic in the first place (it even uses the ancient "struct device_driver" binding scheme for platform_bus!) and I suspect it will vanish soonish when arch/powerpc rules the world. Also, drivers/net/ne.c would have needed more thought to sort out. 2008-04-16phy: Change mii_bus id field to a stringAndy Fleming
Having the id field be an int was making more complex bus topologies excessively difficult. For now, just convert it to a string, and change all instances of "bus->id = val" to snprintf(id, MII_BUS_ID_LEN, "%x", val). 2008-02-03macb: Fix section mismatch and shrink runtime footprintHaavard Skinnemoen
macb devices are only found integrated on SoCs, so they can't be hotplugged. Thus, the probe() and exit() functions can be __init and __exit, respectively. By using platform_driver_probe() instead of platform_driver_register(), there won't be any references to the discarded probe() function after the driver has loaded. This also fixes a section mismatch due to macb_probe(), defined as __devinit, calling macb_get_hwaddr, defined as __init. 2007-12-22MACB: clear transmit buffers properly on transmit underrunGregory CLEMENT
Initially transmit buffer pointers were only reset. But buffer descriptors were possibly still set as ready, and buffer in upper layer was not freed. This caused driver hang under big load. Now reset clean properly the buffer descriptor and freed upper layer. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make NAPI polling independent of struct net_device objects.Stephen Hemminger
Several devices have multiple independant RX queues per net device, and some have a single interrupt doorbell for several queues. In either case, it's easier to support layouts like that if the structure representing the poll is independant from the net device itself. The signature of the ->poll() call back goes from: int foo_poll(struct net_device *dev, int *budget) to int foo_poll(struct napi_struct *napi, int budget) The caller is returned the number of RX packets processed (or the number of "NAPI credits" consumed if you want to get abstract). The callee no longer messes around bumping dev->quota, *budget, etc. because that is all handled in the caller upon return. The napi_struct is to be embedded in the device driver private data structures. Furthermore, it is the driver's responsibility to disable all NAPI instances in it's ->stop() device close handler. Since the napi_struct is privatized into the driver's private data structures, only the driver knows how to get at all of the napi_struct instances it may have per-device. With lots of help and suggestions from Rusty Russell, Roland Dreier, Michael Chan, Jeff Garzik, and Jamal Hadi Salim. Bug fixes from Thomas Graf, Roland Dreier, Peter Zijlstra, Joseph Fannin, Scott Wood, Hans J. Koch, and Michael Chan. [ Ported to current tree and all drivers converted. 2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_copy_to_linear_data{_offset}Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo

2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: Convert skb->tail to sk_buff_data_tArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
So that it is also an offset from skb->head, reduces its size from 8 to 4 bytes on 64bit architectures, allowing us to combine the 4 bytes hole left by the layer headers conversion, reducing struct sk_buff size to 256 bytes, i.e. 4 64byte cachelines, and since the sk_buff slab cache is SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN... :-) Many calculations that previously required that skb->{transport,network, mac}_header be first converted to a pointer now can be done directly, being meaningful as offsets or pointers. 2007-02-17macb: Remove inappropriate spinlocks around mii callsHaavard Skinnemoen
Remove spin_lock_irqsave() around mii_ethtool_gset, mii_ethtool_sset and generic_mii_ioctl. 2006-12-11[PATCH] MACB: Use __raw register accessHaavard Skinnemoen

2006-12-11[PATCH] MACB: Use struct delayed_work instead of struct work_structHaavard Skinnemoen
The macb driver calls schedule_delayed_work() and friends, so we need to use a struct delayed_work along with it. 2006-12-02[PATCH] Atmel MACB ethernet driverHaavard Skinnemoen
Driver for the Atmel MACB on-chip ethernet module. Tested on AVR32/AT32AP7000/ATSTK1000. I've heard rumours that it works with AT91SAM9260 as well, and it may be possible to share some code with the at91_ether driver for AT91RM9200. Hardware documentation can be found in the AT32AP7000 data sheet, which can be downloaded from http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/datasheets.asp?family_id=682 Changes since previous version: * Probe for PHY ID instead of depending on it being provided through platform_data. * Grab initial ethernet address from the MACB registers instead of depending on platform_data. * Set MII/RMII mode correctly. These changes are mostly about making the driver more compatible with the at91 infrastructure. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <hskinnemoen@atmel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
