This patch covers something like this: dev = alloc_*dev(... ... priv = netdev_priv(dev); memset(priv, 0, sizeof(*priv)); The memset() here is superfluous. alloc_netdev() uses kzalloc() to allocate needed memory so there is no need to zero the priv region twice. usbnet_probe() handles a positive return value from the driver bind() function as success, but will later only setup the status handler if the return value was zero, leading to confusion. 2007-05-09Move USB network drivers to drivers/net/usb.Jeff Garzik
It is preferable to group drivers by usage (net, scsi, ATA, ...) than by bus. When reviewing drivers, the [PCI|USB|PCMCIA|...] maintainer is probably less qualified on networking issues than a networking maintainer. Also, from a practical standpoint, chips often appear on multiple buses, which is why we do not put drivers into drivers/pci/net.
