2005-11-07[PATCH] atyfb: Get initial mode timings from LCD BIOSAntonino A. Daplas
Reported by: Jean-Philippe Guérard (Bugzilla Bug 1782) "I've tried with video=atyfb:debug and video=atyfb:debug,mode:1280x600, \ nomtrr. In both case, the screen stays black, but seems divided into 4 vertical bands. Some white lines pop up randomly on each vertical band." The problem is a combination of an incorrect xclk plus lack of timing information. The adapter is attached to an LCD device that can do 1280x600 (which is not a standard resolution). The global mode database does not have an entry for it. Fortunately, the Video BIOS contains the complete timing info for this display, however, atyfb is not making use of it. Add support to get the timing information from the BIOS, if available. 2005-11-07[PATCH] fbcon/fbdev: Move softcursor out of fbdev to fbconAntonino A. Daplas
According to Jon Smirl, filling in the field fb_cursor with soft_cursor for drivers that do not support hardware cursors is redundant. The soft_cursor function is usable by all drivers because it is just a wrapper around fb_imageblit. And because soft_cursor is an fbcon-specific hook, the file is moved to the console directory. Thus, drivers that do not support hardware cursors can leave the fb_cursor field blank. For drivers that do, they can fill up this field with their own version. The end result is a smaller code size. And if the framebuffer console is not loaded, module/kernel size is also reduced because the soft_cursor module will also not be loaded. 2005-10-01[PATCH] pmac/radeonfb: Add suspend support for M11 chip in new iBook 12"Sven Henkel
This adds suspend support for the Radeon M11 chip in 12" iBooks manufactured after July 2005. I don't know if the new 14" iBooks also have that chip, so they might also be supported. The chip identifies itself as "RV350 NV" (pci id 0x4e56), revision 0x80. Apple calls it "Snowy", xfree86 names it "ATI FireGL Mobility T2 (M11) NV (AGP)". So, we seem to be lucky here: The suspend-code for the M10 (which also is a "RV350 NV") works flawless for that chip. 2005-09-29[RADEON]: Fix unaligned I/O port access during probe.David S. Miller
The driver does a readl() on DEVICE_ID which is 2-byte aligned and 2-bytes in size. It's doing this read just to flush write buffers. Create IN16() and OUT16() macros, and use the former to do this I/O load. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2005-09-09[PATCH] quiet non-x86 option ROM warningsOlaf Hering
Quiet an incorrect warning in aty128fb and radeonfb about the PCI ROM content. Macs work just find without that signature. Signed-off-by: Olaf Hering <olh@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-09-09[PATCH] radeonfb: Only request resources we needDaniel Burcaw
This patch changes radeon to request only resources 0 and 2 instead of all 3. This works around problems with some setups where BAR 1 (IO BAR) has not been assigned by the firmware since it's not used on the machine and the kernel fails to assign something to it due to the card being between a P2P bridge that was configured without an IO range at all. This typically fixes radeonfb on some Apple Xserve G5 machines Signed-off-by: Daniel Burcaw <dburcaw@terrasoftsolutions.com> Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-09-09[PATCH] atyfb: Remove code that sets sync polarity unconditionallyAlexander Kern
Currently, atyfb has code that sets the hsync and vsync polarity based on the current video mode, without letting the user override the settings. Remove this particular code. The sync polarities are set by the PROM, the user or by the videomode. 2005-09-05[PATCH] I2C: Kill i2c_algorithm.id (6/7)Jean Delvare
In theory, there should be no more users of I2C_ALGO_* at this point. However, it happens that several drivers were using I2C_ALGO_* for adapter ids, so we need to correct these before we can get rid of all the I2C_ALGO_* definitions. Note that this also fixes a bug in media/video/tvaudio.c: /* don't attach on saa7146 based cards, because dedicated drivers are used */ if ((adap->id & I2C_ALGO_SAA7146)) return 0; This test was plain broken, as it would succeed for many more adapters than just the saa7146: any those id would share at least one bit with the saa7146 id. We are really lucky that the few other adapters we want this driver to work with did not fulfill that condition. 2005-09-05[PATCH] swsusp: switch pm_message_t to structPavel Machek
This adds type-checking to pm_message_t, so that people can't confuse it with int or u32. It also allows us to fix "disk yoyo" during suspend (disk spinning down/up/down). [We've tried that before; since that cpufreq problems were fixed and I've tried make allyes config and fixed resulting damage.] Signed-off-by: Pavel Machek <pavel@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Alexander Nyberg <alexn@telia.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2005-06-27[PATCH] ppc32: Remove CONFIG_PMAC_PBOOKBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This patch removes CONFIG_PMAC_PBOOK (PowerBook support). This is now split into CONFIG_PMAC_MEDIABAY for the actual hotswap bay that some powerbooks have, CONFIG_PM for power management related code, and just left out of any CONFIG_* option for some generally useful stuff that can be used on non-laptops as well. 2005-06-12[PATCH] radeonfb: don't blow up VGA console on loadBenjamin Herrenschmidt
The current radeonfb memset's the framebuffer to 0 when loaded. This removes occasional artifacts but has the nasty side effect that if you load radeonfb without framebuffer console, you destroy the VGA text buffer, font, etc... radeon must not touch the framebuffer content when it doesn't "own" it. 2005-05-01[PATCH] fbdev: Batch cmap changes at driver levelBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This patch adds to the fbdev interface a set_cmap callback that allow the driver to "batch" palette changes. This is useful for drivers like radeonfb which might require lenghtly workarounds on palette accesses, thus allowing to factor out those workarounds efficiently. 2005-04-16[PATCH] ppc32: Fix AGP and sleep againBenjamin Herrenschmidt
My previous patch that added sleep support for uninorth-agp and some AGP "off" stuff in radeonfb and aty128fb is breaking some configs. More specifically, it has problems with rage128 setups since the DRI code for these in X doesn't properly re-enable AGP on wakeup or console switch (unlike the radeon DRM). This patch fixes the problem for pmac once for all by using a different approach. The AGP driver "registers" special suspend/resume callbacks with some arch code that the fbdev's can later on call to suspend and resume AGP, making sure it's resumed back in the same state it was when suspended. This is platform specific for now. It would be too complicated to try to do a generic implementation of this at this point due to all sort of weird things going on with AGP on other architectures. We'll re-work that whole problem cleanly once we finally merge fbdev's and DRI. In the meantime, please apply this patch which brings back some r128 based laptops into working condition as far as system sleep is concerned. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
