2007-05-09Use common cpu_is_xxx() macros on AT91 and AVR32Haavard Skinnemoen
Several drivers shared between AT91 and AVR32 chips use cpu_is_xxx() to handle CPU-specific differences. Currently, such code needs to be inside #ifdef CONFIG_ARCH_AT91 because the macros don't exist on AVR32. By defining the same macros on both AT91 and AVR32, these #ifdefs can be eliminated. Since the macros will evaluate to a constant value for CPUs that aren't supported by the current architecture, any code that is only needed on AT91 will be optimized away on AVR32 and vice versa. dependency atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. I agree (with Andi Kleen) this typeof is not needed and more error prone. All the original atomic.h code that uses cmpxchg (which includes the atomic_add_unless) uses defines instead of inline functions, probably to circumvent a circular dependency between system.h and atomic.h on powerpc (which my patch addresses). Therefore, it makes sense to use inline functions that will provide type checking. atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. Digging into the FRV architecture shows me that it is also affected by such a circular dependency. Here is the diff applying this against the rest of my atomic.h patches. It applies over the atomic.h standardization patches. 2007-05-08Clean up mostly unused IOSPACE macrosDavid Gibson
Most architectures defined three macros, MK_IOSPACE_PFN(), GET_IOSPACE() and GET_PFN() in pgtable.h. However, the only callers of any of these macros are in Sparc specific code, either in arch/sparc, arch/sparc64 or drivers/sbus. This patch removes the redundant macros from all architectures except sparc and sparc64. 2007-05-08kdump/kexec: calculate note size at compile timeSimon Horman
Currently the size of the per-cpu region reserved to save crash notes is set by the per-architecture value MAX_NOTE_BYTES. Which in turn is currently set to 1024 on all supported architectures. While testing ia64 I recently discovered that this value is in fact too small. The particular setup I was using actually needs 1172 bytes. This lead to very tedious failure mode where the tail of one elf note would overwrite the head of another if they ended up being alocated sequentially by kmalloc, which was often the case. It seems to me that a far better approach is to caclculate the size that the area needs to be. This patch does just that. If a simpler stop-gap patch for ia64 to be squeezed into 2.6.21(.X) is needed then this should be as easy as making MAX_NOTE_BYTES larger in arch/asm-ia64/kexec.h. Perhaps 2048 would be a good choice. However, I think that the approach in this patch is a much more robust idea. 2007-05-08move die notifier handling to common codeChristoph Hellwig
This patch moves the die notifier handling to common code. Previous various architectures had exactly the same code for it. Note that the new code is compiled unconditionally, this should be understood as an appel to the other architecture maintainer to implement support for it aswell (aka sprinkling a notify_die or two in the proper place) arm had a notifiy_die that did something totally different, I renamed it to arm_notify_die as part of the patch and made it static to the file it's declared and used at. avr32 used to pass slightly less information through this interface and I brought it into line with the other architectures. 2007-05-05[ARM] mm 10: allow memory type to be specified with ioremapRussell King
__ioremap() took a set of page table flags (specifically the cacheable and bufferable bits) to control the mapping type. However, with the advent of ARMv6, this is far too limited. Replace the page table flags with a memory type index, so that the desired attributes can be selected from the mem_type table. 2007-05-05[ARM] 4318/2: DSM-G600 Board SupportMichael-Luke Jones
This patch adds support for the D-Link DSM-G600 Rev A. This is an ARM XScale IXP4xx system relatively similar to the NSLU2 and NAS-100D already supported by mainline. An important difference is Gigabit Ethernet support using the Via Velocity chipset. This patch is the combined work of Michael Westerhof and Alessandro Zummo, with contributions from Michael-Luke Jones. This version addresses review comments from rmk and Deepak Saxena. 2007-05-03[ARM] 4348/4: iop3xx: Give Linux control over PCI initializationDan Williams
Currently the iop3xx platform support code assumes that RedBoot is the bootloader and has already initialized the ATU. Linux should handle this initialization for three reasons: 1/ The memory map that RedBoot sets up is not optimal (page_to_dma and virt_to_phys return different addresses). The effect of this is that using the dma mapping API for the internal bus dma units generates pci bus addresses that are incorrect for the internal bus. 2/ Not all iop platforms use RedBoot 3/ If the ATU is already initialized it indicates that the iop is an add-in card in another host, it does not own the PCI bus, and should not be re-initialized. 2007-05-02PCI: Cleanup the includes of <linux/pci.h>Jean Delvare
I noticed that many source files include <linux/pci.h> while they do not appear to need it. Here is an attempt to clean it all up. In order to find all possibly affected files, I searched for all files including <linux/pci.h> but without any other occurence of "pci" or "PCI". I removed the include statement from all of these, then I compiled an allmodconfig kernel on both i386 and x86_64 and fixed the false positives manually. My tests covered 66% of the affected files, so there could be false positives remaining. 2007-05-02[PATCH] x86: PARAVIRT: add hooks to intercept mm creation and destructionJeremy Fitzhardinge
Add hooks to allow a paravirt implementation to track the lifetime of an mm. Paravirtualization requires three hooks, but only two are needed in common code. They are: arch_dup_mmap, which is called when a new mmap is created at fork arch_exit_mmap, which is called when the last process reference to an mm is dropped, which typically happens on exit and exec. The third hook is activate_mm, which is called from the arch-specific activate_mm() macro/function, and so doesn't need stub versions for other architectures. It's called when an mm is first used. Now that network timestamps use ktime_t infrastructure, we can add a new SOL_SOCKET sockopt SO_TIMESTAMPNS. This command is similar to SO_TIMESTAMP, but permits transmission of a 'timespec struct' instead of a 'timeval struct' control message. (nanosecond resolution instead of microsecond) Control message is labelled SCM_TIMESTAMPNS instead of SCM_TIMESTAMP A socket cannot mix SO_TIMESTAMP and SO_TIMESTAMPNS : the two modes are mutually exclusive. sock_recv_timestamp() became too big to be fully inlined so I added a __sock_recv_timestamp() helper function. CKEN24_CAMERA --> CKEN_CAMERA The reasons for the change of these defitions are: 1. they do not scale - they are currently valid for pxa2xx, but definitely not valid for pxa3xx, e.g., pxa3xx has bit 3 for camera instead of bit 24 2. they are unnecessary - the peripheral name within the definition has already announced its usage, we don't need those bit numbers to know which peripheral we are going to enable/disable clock for 3. they are inconvenient - think about this: a driver programmer for pxa has to remember which bit in the CKEN register to turn on/off Another change in the patch is to make the definitions equal to its clock bit index, so that #define CKEN_CAMERA (24) instead of #define CKEN_CAMERA (1 << 24) this change, however, will add a run-time bit shift operation in pxa_set_cken(), but the benefit of this change is that it scales when bit index exceeds 32, e.g., pxa3xx has two registers CKENA and CKENB, totally 64 bit for this, suppose CAMERA clock enabling bit is CKENB:10, one can simply define CKEN_CAMERA to be (32 + 10) and so that pxa_set_cken() need minimum change to adapt to that. 2007-04-21[ARM] 4246/1: i2c-pxa: add adapter class to platform specific dataMatej Kenda
Reposted patch for kernel 2.6.21-rc2. The driver i2c-pxa doesn't set the class member in i2c_adapter, which is used to register the I2C adapter. The hwmon (sensors) drivers (e.g. adm1021) that are connected to a i2c-pxa adapter don't attach because they expect that the adapter supports class I2C_CLASS_HWMON. This patch adds functionality to allow platforms to set the class and pass it as platform_data to the i2c-pxa driver.
