2008-04-22HID: export headers properlyMike Frysinger
I have people whining about using these headers in userspace, and they have __KERNEL__ markings which implies they're supposed to be exported. I also added the required linux/types.h include to hidraw.h since it uses the __u## kernel types. 2008-04-17udf: move headers out include/linux/Christoph Hellwig
There's really no reason to keep udf headers in include/linux as they're not used by anything but fs/udf/. This patch merges most of include/linux/udf_fs_i.h into fs/udf/udf_i.h, include/linux/udf_fs_sb.h into fs/udf/udf_sb.h and include/linux/udf_fs.h into fs/udf/udfdecl.h. The only thing remaining in include/linux/ is a stub of udf_fs_i.h defining the four user-visible udf ioctls. It's also moved from unifdef-y to headers-y because it can be included unconditionally now. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Jan Kara <jack@suse.cz>

2008-04-02kvm: provide kvm.h for all architecture: fixes headers_installChristian Borntraeger
Currently include/linux/kvm.h is not considered by make headers_install, because Kbuild cannot handle " unifdef-$(CONFIG_FOO) += foo.h. This problem was introduced by commit fb56dbb31c4738a3918db81fd24da732ce3b4ae6 Author: Avi Kivity <avi@qumranet.com> Date: Sun Dec 2 10:50:06 2007 +0200 KVM: Export include/linux/kvm.h only if $ARCH actually supports KVM Currently, make headers_check barfs due to <asm/kvm.h>, which <linux/kvm.h> includes, not existing. Rather than add a zillion <asm/kvm.h>s, export kvm. only if the arch actually supports it. Signed-off-by: Avi Kivity <avi@qumranet.com> which makes this an 2.6.25 regression. One way of solving the issue is to enhance Kbuild, but Avi and David conviced me, that changing headers_install is not the way to go. This patch changes the definition for linux/kvm.h to unifdef-y. If  unifdef-y is used for linux/kvm.h "make headers_check" will fail on all architectures without asm/kvm.h. Therefore, this patch also provides asm/kvm.h on all architectures. 2008-03-12Remove <linux/genhd.h> from user-visible headers.David Woodhouse
It was all wrapped in '#ifdef CONFIG_BLOCK' anyway, so userspace was getting nothing useful out of it. 2008-02-08drop linux/ufs_fs.h from userspace export and relocate it to fs/ufs/ufs_fs.hMike Frysinger
Per previous discussions about cleaning up ufs_fs.h, people just want this straight up dropped from userspace export. The only remaining consumer (silo) has been fixed a while ago to not rely on this header. 2007-10-23Block driver using virtio.Rusty Russell
The block driver uses scatter-gather lists with sg[0] being the request information (struct virtio_blk_outhdr) with the type, sector and inbuf id. The next N sg entries are the bio itself, then the last sg is the status byte. Whether the N entries are in or out depends on whether it's a read or a write. We accept the normal (SCSI) ioctls: they get handed through to the other side which can then handle it or reply that it's unsupported. It's not clear that this actually works in general, since I don't know if blk_pc_request() requests have an accurate rq_data_dir(). Although we try to reply -ENOTTY on unsupported commands, ioctl(fd, CDROMEJECT) returns success to userspace. This needs a separate patch. 2007-10-23Net driver using virtioRusty Russell
The network driver uses two virtqueues: one for input packets and one for output packets. This has nice locking properties (ie. we don't do any for recv vs send). 2007-10-23Virtio interfaceRusty Russell
This attempts to implement a "virtual I/O" layer which should allow common drivers to be efficiently used across most virtual I/O mechanisms. It will no-doubt need further enhancement. The virtio drivers add buffers to virtio queues; as the buffers are consumed the driver "interrupt" callbacks are invoked. There is also a generic implementation of config space which drivers can query to get setup information from the host. 2007-10-23Make asm-x86/bootparam.h includable from userspace.Rusty Russell
To actually write a bootloader (or, say, the lguest launcher) currently requires duplication of these structures. Making them includable from userspace is much nicer. 2007-10-19Add cgroupstatsBalbir Singh
This patch is inspired by the discussion at http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/4/11/187 and implements per cgroup statistics as suggested by Andrew Morton in http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/4/11/263. The patch is on top of 2.6.21-mm1 with Paul's cgroups v9 patches (forward ported) This patch implements per cgroup statistics infrastructure and re-uses code from the taskstats interface. A new set of cgroup operations are registered with commands and attributes. It should be very easy to *extend* per cgroup statistics, by adding members to the cgroupstats structure. The current model for cgroupstats is a pull, a push model (to post statistics on interesting events), should be very easy to add. Currently user space requests for statistics by passing the cgroup file descriptor. Statistics about the state of all the tasks in the cgroup is returned to user space. TODO's/NOTE: This patch provides an infrastructure for implementing cgroup statistics. Based on the needs of each controller, we can incrementally add more statistics, event based support for notification of statistics, accumulation of taskstats into cgroup statistics in the future. Sample output # ./cgroupstats -C /cgroup/a sleeping 2, blocked 0, running 1, stopped 0, uninterruptible 0 # ./cgroupstats -C /cgroup/ sleeping 154, blocked 0, running 0, stopped 0, uninterruptible 0 If the approach looks good, I'll enhance and post the user space utility for the same Feedback, comments, test results are always welcome! If the DLM_LKF_TIMEOUT flag is set, then the request/conversion will be canceled after waiting the specified number of centiseconds (specified per lock). This feature is only available for locks requested through libdlm (can be enabled for kernel dlm users if there's a use for it.) If the new DLM_LSFL_TIMEWARN flag is set when creating the lockspace, then a warning message will be sent to userspace (using genetlink) after a request/conversion has been waiting for a given number of centiseconds (configurable per node). The time warnings will be used in the future to do deadlock detection in userspace. Signed-off-by: David Teigland <teigland@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Steven Whitehouse <swhiteho@redhat.com>
