2007-01-26[PATCH] knfsd: Fix type mismatch with filldir_t used by nfsdNeilBrown
nfsd defines a type 'encode_dent_fn' which is much like 'filldir_t' except that the first pointer is 'struct readdir_cd *' rather than 'void *'. It then casts encode_dent_fn points to 'filldir_t' as needed. This hides any other type mismatches between the two such as the fact that the 'ino' arg recently changed from ino_t to u64. So: get rid of 'encode_dent_fn', get rid of the cast of the function type, change the first arg of various functions from 'struct readdir_cd *' to 'void *', and live with the fact that we have a little less type checking on the calling of these functions now. Less internal (to nfsd) checking offset by more external checking, which is more important. Thanks to Gabriel Paubert <paubert@iram.es> for discovering this and providing an initial patch. 2007-01-26[PATCH] knfsd: replace some warning ins nfsfh.h with BUG_ON or WARN_ONNeilBrown
A couple of the warnings will be followed by an Oops if they ever fire, so may as well be BUG_ON. Another isn't obviously fatal but has never been known to fire, so make it a WARN_ON. 2006-12-13[PATCH] knfsd: nfsd4: pass saved and current fh together into nfsd4 operationsJ.Bruce Fields
Pass the saved and current filehandles together into all the nfsd4 compound operations. I want a unified interface to these operations so we can just call them by pointer and throw out the huge switch statement. Also I'll eventually want a structure like this--that holds the state used during compound processing--for deferral. Signed-off-by: J. 2006-12-13[PATCH] knfsd: nfsd4: clarify units of COMPOUND_SLACK_SPACEJ.Bruce Fields

2006-11-08[PATCH] nfsd4: fix open-create permissionsJ. Bruce Fields
In the case where an open creates the file, we shouldn't be rechecking permissions to open the file; the open succeeds regardless of what the new file's mode bits say. This patch fixes the problem, but only by introducing yet another parameter to nfsd_create_v3. This is ugly. This will be fixed by later patches. Signed-off-by: J. 2006-10-20[PATCH] nfsd: nfs_replay_meAl Viro
We are using NFS_REPLAY_ME as a special error value that is never leaked to clients. That works fine; the only problem is mixing host- and network- endian values in the same objects. 2006-10-04[PATCH] knfsd: Allow max size of NFSd payload to be configuredNeilBrown

2006-10-04[PATCH] knfsd: Prepare knfsd for support of rsize/wsize of up to 1MB, over TCPGreg Banks
The limit over UDP remains at 32K. Also, make some of the apparently arbitrary sizing constants clearer. The biggest change here involves replacing NFSSVC_MAXBLKSIZE by a function of the rqstp. This allows it to be different for different protocols (udp/tcp) and also allows it to depend on the servers declared sv_bufsiz. Note that we don't actually increase sv_bufsz for nfs yet. That comes next. 2006-10-04[PATCH] knfsd: Avoid excess stack usage in svc_tcp_recvfromNeilBrown
.. by allocating the array of 'kvec' in 'struct svc_rqst'. As we plan to increase RPCSVC_MAXPAGES from 8 upto 256, we can no longer allocate an array of this size on the stack. So we allocate it in 'struct svc_rqst'. However svc_rqst contains (indirectly) an array of the same type and size (actually several, but they are in a union). So rather than waste space, we move those arrays out of the separately allocated union and into svc_rqst to share with the kvec moved out of svc_tcp_recvfrom (various arrays are used at different times, so there is no conflict). 2006-10-02[PATCH] knfsd: allow sockets to be passed to nfsd via 'portlist'NeilBrown
Userspace should create and bind a socket (but not connectted) and write the 'fd' to portlist. This will cause the nfs server to listen on that socket. 2006-10-02[PATCH] knfsd: remove nfsd_versbits as intermediate storage for desired versionsNeilBrown
We have an array 'nfsd_version' which lists the available versions of nfsd, and 'nfsd_versions' (poor choice there :-() which lists the currently active versions. Then we have a bitmap - nfsd_versbits which says which versions are wanted. The bits in this bitset cause content to be copied from nfsd_version to nfsd_versions when nfsd starts. This patch removes nfsd_versbits and moves information directly from nfsd_version to nfsd_versions when requests for version changes arrive. Note that this doesn't make it possible to change versions while the server is running. This is because serv->sv_xdrsize is calculated when a service is created, and used when threads are created, and xdrsize depends on the active versions. 2006-03-27[PATCH] knfsd: Break the hard linkage from svc_expkey to svc_exportNeilBrown
Current svc_expkey holds a pointer to the svc_export structure, so updates to that structure have to be in-place, which is a wart on the whole cache infrastruct. So we break that linkage and just do a second lookup. If this became a performance issue, it would be possible to put a direct link back in which was only used conditionally. i.e. when an object is replaced in the cache, we set a flag in the old object. When dereferencing the link from svc_expkey, if the flag is set, we drop the reference and do a fresh lookup. Change nfsd_sync_dir to return an error if ->sync fails, and pass that error up through the stack. 2006-01-06[PATCH] knfsd: check error status from vfs_getattr and i_op->fsyncDavid Shaw
Both vfs_getattr and i_op->fsync return error statuses which nfsd was largely ignoring. This as noticed when exporting directories using fuse. This patch cleans up most of the offences, which involves moving the call to vfs_getattr out of the xdr encoding routines (where it is too late to report an error) into the main NFS procedure handling routines. There is still a called to vfs_gettattr (related to the ACL code) where the status is ignored, and called to nfsd_sync_dir don't check return status either. 2005-11-07[PATCH] knfsd: Fix some minor sign problems in nfsd/xdrNeilBrown
There are a couple of tests which could possibly be confused by extremely large numbers appearing in 'xdr' packets. I think the closest to an exploit you could get would be writing random data from a free page into a file - i.e. leak data out of kernel space. I'm fairly sure they cannot be used for remote compromise. Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] knfsd: Allow run-time selection of NFS versions to exportNeilBrown
Provide a file in the NFSD filesystem that allows setting and querying of which version of NFS are being exported. Changes are only allowed while no server is running. 2005-09-13[PATCH] nfsd4: move replay_ownerNeil Brown
It seems more natural to move the setting of the replay_owner into the relevant procedure instead of doing it in nfsv4_proc_compound. Signed-off-by: J. 2005-07-07[PATCH] nfsd4: check lock type against openmode.NeilBrown
We shouldn't be allowing, e.g., write locks on files not open for read. To enforce this, we add a pointer from the lock stateid back to the open stateid it came from, so that the check will continue to be correct even after the open is upgraded or downgraded. 2005-07-07[PATCH] nfsd4: return better error on io incompatible with open modeNeilBrown
from RFC 3530: "Share reservations are established by OPEN operations and by their nature are mandatory in that when the OPEN denies READ or WRITE operations, that denial results in such operations being rejected with error NFS4ERR_LOCKED." (Note that share_denied is really only a legal error for OPEN.) Signed-off-by: Andy Adamson <andros@citi.umich.edu> Signed-off-by: J. 2005-07-07[PATCH] nfsd4: fix sync'ing of recovery directoryNeilBrown
We need to fsync the recovery directory after writing to it, but we weren't doing this correctly. (For example, we weren't taking the i_sem when calling ->fsync().) Just reuse the existing nfsd fsync code instead. Signed-off-by: J. 2005-06-24[PATCH] knfsd: nfsd4: initialize recovery directoryNeilBrown
NFSv4 clients are required to know what state they have on the server so that they can reclaim it on server reboot. However, it is possible for pathalogical combinations of server reboots and network partitions to leave a client in a state where it cannot know whether it has lost its state on the server. For this reason, rfc3530 requires that we store some information about clients to stable storage. So we maintain a directory /var/lib/nfs/v4recovery with a subdirectory for each client with active state. We leave open the possibility of including files underneath each such subdirectory with information about the client, but for now the subdirectories are empty. We create a client subdirectory whenever a client makes its first non-reclaim open_confirm. We remove a client subdirectory whenever either a) its lease expires, or b) the grace period ends without it reclaiming anything. When handling reclaims, we allow the reclaim if and only if the client doing the reclaim has a subdirectory. This patch adds just the code to scan the recovery directory on nfsd startup.
