2007-08-31PM: Fix dependencies of CONFIG_SUSPEND and CONFIG_HIBERNATIONRafael J. Wysocki
Dependencies of CONFIG_SUSPEND and CONFIG_HIBERNATION introduced by commit 296699de6bdc717189a331ab6bbe90e05c94db06 "Introduce CONFIG_SUSPEND for suspend-to-Ram and standby" are incorrect, as they don't cover the facts that (1) not all architectures support suspend and (2) SMP hibernation is only possible on X86 and PPC64 (if CONFIG_PPC64_SWSUSP is set). 2007-07-29Introduce CONFIG_SUSPEND for suspend-to-Ram and standbyRafael J. Wysocki
Introduce CONFIG_SUSPEND representing the ability to enter system sleep states, such as the ACPI S3 state, and allow the user to choose SUSPEND and HIBERNATION independently of each other. Make HOTPLUG_CPU be selected automatically if SUSPEND or HIBERNATION has been chosen and the kernel is intended for SMP systems. Also, introduce CONFIG_PM_SLEEP which is automatically selected if CONFIG_SUSPEND or CONFIG_HIBERNATION is set and use it to select the code needed for both suspend and hibernation. The top-level power management headers and the ACPI code related to suspend and hibernation are modified to use the new definitions (the changes in drivers/acpi/sleep/main.c are, mostly, moving code to reduce the number of ifdefs). There are many other files in which CONFIG_PM can be replaced with CONFIG_PM_SLEEP or even with CONFIG_SUSPEND, but they can be updated in the future. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2007-07-29Replace CONFIG_SOFTWARE_SUSPEND with CONFIG_HIBERNATIONRafael J. Wysocki

2007-07-19PM: Do not require dev spew to get PM_DEBUGBen Collins
In order to enable things like PM_TRACE, you're required to enable PM_DEBUG, which sends a large spew of messages on boot, and often times can overflow dmesg buffer. Create new PM_VERBOSE and shift that to be the option that enables drivers/base/power's messages. Signed-off-by: Ben Collins <bcollins@ubuntu.com> Cc: "Rafael J. 2007-05-07kconfig: mention 'hibernation' not just swsuspDavid Brownell
Clarify that "software suspend" is what's called "hibernation" in most user interfaces, shrinking a terminology gap. (Examples include Gnome and MS-Windows.) Also provide a more succinct description of what it does, so you won't have to read the whole novel in Kconfig; and highlights just why the lack of BIOS requirements for swsusp are a big deal. 2007-05-07[POWERPC] powermac: Suspend to disk on G5Johannes Berg
Powermac G5 suspend to disk implementation. The code is platform agnostic but only tested on powermac, no other 64-bit powerpc machines. Because nvidiafb still breaks suspend I have marked it EXPERIMENTAL on powermac and because I can't test it and some lowlevel code will need changes it is BROKEN on all other 64-bit platforms. 2007-02-09[APM] Add shared version of APM emulationRalf Baechle

2006-12-13Driver core: deprecate PM_LEGACY, default it to NDavid Brownell

2006-12-07[PATCH] swsusp: Support i386 systems with PAE or without PSERafael J. Wysocki
Make swsusp support i386 systems with PAE or without PSE. 2006-09-26[PATCH] PM: make it possible to disable console suspendingRafael J. Wysocki

2006-09-25PM: add kconfig option for deprecated .../power/state filesDavid Brownell
Add a new PM_SYSFS_DEPRECATED config option to control whether or not the /sys/devices/.../power/state files are provided. 2006-09-06[PATCH] prevent swsusp with PAEPavel Machek
PAE + swsusp results in hard-to-debug crash about 50% of time during resume. Cause is known, fix needs to be ported from x86-64 (but we can't make it to 2.6.18, and I'd like this to be worked around in 2.6.18). 2006-06-25Fix PM_TRACE dependency: works only on 32-bit x86 for nowLinus Torvalds

2006-06-24Add some basic resume trace facilitiesLinus Torvalds
Considering that there isn't a lot of hw we can depend on during resume, this is about as good as it gets. This is x86-only for now, although the basic concept (and most of the code) will certainly work on almost any platform. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-04-01help text: SOFTWARE_SUSPEND doesn't need ACPIAdrian Bunk

2005-09-05[PATCH] encrypt suspend data for easy wipingAndreas Steinmetz
The patch protects from leaking sensitive data after resume from suspend. During suspend a temporary key is created and this key is used to encrypt the data written to disk. When, during resume, the data was read back into memory the temporary key is destroyed which simply means that all data written to disk during suspend are then inaccessible so they can't be stolen lateron. Think of the following: you suspend while an application is running that keeps sensitive data in memory. The application itself prevents the data from being swapped out. Suspend, however, must write these data to swap to be able to resume lateron. Without suspend encryption your sensitive data are then stored in plaintext on disk. This means that after resume your sensitive data are accessible to all applications having direct access to the swap device which was used for suspend. If you don't need swap after resume these data can remain on disk virtually forever. Thus it can happen that your system gets broken in weeks later and sensitive data which you thought were encrypted and protected are retrieved and stolen from the swap device. 2005-08-25[ACPI] IA64-related ACPI Kconfig fixesLen Brown
Build issues were mostly in the ACPI=n case -- don't do that. Select ACPI from IA64_GENERIC. Add some missing dependencies on ACPI. Mark BLACKLIST_YEAR and some laptop-only ACPI drivers as X86-only. Let me know when you get an IA64 Laptop. Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>

2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
