2007-10-23[IPV4]: Explicitly call fib_get_table() in fib_frontend.cPavel Emelyanov
In case the "multiple tables" config option is y, the ip_fib_local_table is not a variable, but a macro, that calls fib_get_table(RT_TABLE_LOCAL). Some code uses this "variable" *3* times in one place, thus implicitly making 3 calls. Fix it. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NETLINK]: fib_frontend build fixesDavid S. Miller
1) fibnl needs to be declared outside of config ifdefs, and also should not be explicitly initialized to NULL 2) nl_fib_input() args are wrong for netlink_kernel_create() input method Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: make netlink user -> kernel interface synchroniousDenis V. Lunev
This patch make processing netlink user -> kernel messages synchronious. This change was inspired by the talk with Alexey Kuznetsov about current netlink messages processing. He says that he was badly wrong when introduced asynchronious user -> kernel communication. The call netlink_unicast is the only path to send message to the kernel netlink socket. But, unfortunately, it is also used to send data to the user. Before this change the user message has been attached to the socket queue and sk->sk_data_ready was called. The process has been blocked until all pending messages were processed. The bad thing is that this processing may occur in the arbitrary process context. This patch changes nlk->data_ready callback to get 1 skb and force packet processing right in the netlink_unicast. Kernel -> user path in netlink_unicast remains untouched. EINTR processing for in netlink_run_queue was changed. It forces rtnl_lock drop, but the process remains in the cycle until the message will be fully processed. So, there is no need to use this kludges now. Signed-off-by: Denis V. Lunev <den@openvz.org> Acked-by: Alexey Kuznetsov <kuznet@ms2.inr.ac.ru> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NETLINK]: Introduce nested and byteorder flag to netlink attributeThomas Graf
This change allows the generic attribute interface to be used within the netfilter subsystem where this flag was initially introduced. The byte-order flag is yet unused, it's intended use is to allow automatic byte order convertions for all atomic types. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Support multiple network namespaces with netlinkEric W. Biederman
Each netlink socket will live in exactly one network namespace, this includes the controlling kernel sockets. This patch updates all of the existing netlink protocols to only support the initial network namespace. Request by clients in other namespaces will get -ECONREFUSED. As they would if the kernel did not have the support for that netlink protocol compiled in. As each netlink protocol is updated to be multiple network namespace safe it can register multiple kernel sockets to acquire a presence in the rest of the network namespaces. The implementation in af_netlink is a simple filter implementation at hash table insertion and hash table look up time. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Make device event notification network namespace safeEric W. Biederman
Every user of the network device notifiers is either a protocol stack or a pseudo device. If a protocol stack that does not have support for multiple network namespaces receives an event for a device that is not in the initial network namespace it quite possibly can get confused and do the wrong thing. To avoid problems until all of the protocol stacks are converted this patch modifies all netdev event handlers to ignore events on devices that are not in the initial network namespace. As the rest of the code is made network namespace aware these checks can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-04-25[NETLINK]: Infinite recursion in netlink.Alexey Kuznetsov
Reply to NETLINK_FIB_LOOKUP messages were misrouted back to kernel, which resulted in infinite recursion and stack overflow. The bug is present in all kernel versions since the feature appeared. The patch also makes some minimal cleanup: 1. Return something consistent (-ENOENT) when fib table is missing 2. Do not crash when queue is empty (does not happen, but yet) 3. 2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). 2006-12-02[NET]: Rethink mark field in struct flowiThomas Graf
Now that all protocols have been made aware of the mark field it can be moved out of the union thus simplyfing its usage. The config options in the IPv4/IPv6/DECnet subsystems to enable respectively disable mark based routing only obfuscate the code with ifdefs, the cost for the additional comparison in the flow key is insignificant, and most distributions have all these options enabled by default anyway. Therefore it makes sense to remove the config options and enable mark based routing by default. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2006-09-22[IPv4]: FIB configuration using struct fib_configThomas Graf
Introduces struct fib_config replacing the ugly struct kern_rta prone to ordering issues. Avoids creating faked netlink messages for auto generated routes or requests via ioctl. 2006-09-22[IPV4]: Increase number of possible routing tables to 2^32Patrick McHardy

2006-09-22[NET]: Introduce RTA_TABLE/FRA_TABLE attributesPatrick McHardy
Introduce RTA_TABLE route attribute and FRA_TABLE routing rule attribute to hold 32 bit routing table IDs. Usespace compatibility is provided by continuing to accept and send the rtm_table field, but because of its limited size it can only carry the low 8 bits of the table ID. This implies that if larger IDs are used, _all_ userspace programs using them need to use RTA_TABLE. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. The following patch renames __in_dev_get() to __in_dev_get_rtnl() and introduces __in_dev_get_rcu() to cover the second case. 1) RCU with refcnt should use in_dev_get(). 2) RCU without refcnt should use __in_dev_get_rcu(). 3) All others must hold RTNL and use __in_dev_get_rtnl().
